A philosophy for film

Film movements throughout history reflect the tropes and concerns of the times.  As we enter the second quarter of the 21st century, we are met by a real concern for the environment of our planet and a trend advocating portrayals of representation that has not been seen for centuries.

Goat and Drum's philosophy for film making is in support of both the environmental and the human. Production organisation, story content and director styles are each informed by consideration of environmental and human sustainability. Read on to find out more about some of the influencing factors that help to build a prototype for this way of operating.

Creative Ensemble

Hiya!

Here is an introduction to Creative Ensemble and to a template which has been created specifically for directors, workshop leaders and wellness facilitators working in the realms of filmmaking and theatre.  I provide tutorship in this and have created a programme and document I call 'Human Sustainability' to insert into filmmaking practice alongside Planetary Sustainability guidelines taken with Screen Sustainability Scotland.

The content has been assembled with an eye on developing opportunities for enhanced creative possibility alongside a desire to optimise safe and inclusive practice.  There’s an art to this and I share with others a lot of what I have personally learnt. I present it in a way so that you can hold a 2 hour workshop with the people you work with to intorduce them to the ethos and set up practice.

Here's the content:

Introduction
BUILDING TRUST
ETHICAL FRAMEWORK
LIST OF RESOURCES TO HAVE & HOLDING IN PLACE
EXAMPLE OF A pre workshop questionnaire with an emphasis on collaborative & inclusive ethos
EXAMPLE OF A 2 hour WORKSHOP STRUCTURE
WARm Up, group cohesion, closing the space and soother IDEAS

I am a trained pluralistic counsellor (MSc), constellation therapist (which, in case you need a bit of an explanation - is a practice exploring our ancestral and mythical imprints and opening up theatre environments as a way to explore, understand and release their hold on living scripts) and a shamanic operator.  I have written several published books on these subject areas.  I am currently taking a PhD at Edinburgh Napier with research and implementation of this well being model at its heart!

As an artist and filmmaker, first and foremost though my primary interest is in the weave of the artistic product and how it reverberates with whoever and whatever will meet its interface.  In my years of exploration, I have found that through the creation of safe, unconditional and well-resourced spaces surprising discovery and transformations have been possible both within the ensemble of both the actor-crew team and the audience or workshop participants.

In an age when the walls built by prohibiting forces are just beginning to be challenged, it is so important to bring in practices and ideas that will support the emergence of a culture of imaginative, non-competitive and mutually supportive, creative space holders.  We are in a period of uncovering who we are and what we need to put in place in order to be who we are.  This is only the beginning.  With this in mind, it is expected that this document will evolve over time as more is discovered and uncovered.

The document and three hour online introductory one to one is structured in a way that will lead you through a process in order of development of a project from original devising through to its end.
